Degree Apprenticeship Standard for Prosthetist and Orthotist – proposal approved

22 August, 2017

Further to the submission of a proposal to the Institute for Apprenticeships to develop a degree apprenticeship standard for Prosthetist & Orthotist we are delighted to announce that the Proposal has been approved.

An employer led Trailblazer group will now take forward the drafting of the Degree Apprenticeship Standard and accompanying end-point assessment plan. Once ready for wider consultation, an on-line survey will be available on our consultations page. Further communications are planned to let you know when the consultation is open.

Michael O’Byrne & Juliet Sturgess, Joint Chairs of the Trailblazer said:
‘We are thrilled to have got the go ahead to develop a new route for training Prosthetist/Orthotists. This new apprenticeship will give more control to employers to teach and develop staff whilst growing the number of professionals able to uniquely deliver the highest quality Prosthetics and Orthotics to our patients. This is a great opportunity for all stakeholders in the Prosthetic and Orthotics service to input and influence how we want our future professionals to be educated and trained.’
