Speech and Language Therapy

The HCPC sets out the standards of proficiency which every Speech and Language Therapist must meet in order to become registered.

The Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) are the professional body for speech and language therapists in the UK.

Speech and Language Therapy is an exciting and varied career. It offers the chance to make a difference, a high degree of flexibility and excellent employment prospects. These professionals work with patients every day to help improve their care and lives. It is the right profession for those who enjoy science, education, languages, linguistics or medicine.

Speech and language therapists (SLTs) in the UK work with children and adults to help them overcome or adapt to a vast array of disorders of speech, language, communication and swallowing.

These include helping young children to access education, working with young offenders to enable them to access the programmes designed to reduce reoffending, reducing life-threatening swallowing problems in the early days after stroke and providing essential support to adults with a range of acquired neurological communication difficulties to help them return to work, and their roles in their family and society.
