The Trailblazer group, Chaired by Victoria Maher from The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, has been busy working on the apprenticeship standard for Operating Department Practitioner (ODP). The employer led group is joined by several university colleagues, Health Education England, the College of Operating Department Practitioners and the Association for Perioperative Practice. The group had an initial meeting in July and the drafting of the standard is underway. The group is due to meet again in early September where the plan is to have the standard ready to be shared more widely through a structured consultation later in the autumn. This will give everyone an opportunity to inform and develop the standard before it is submitted to the Institute for Apprenticeships to seek approval.
