Clinical Academic Professional – Proposal submitted

7 November, 2018

We are pleased to announce that employers submitted a proposal to the Institute for Apprenticeships to develop an apprenticeship standard for Clinical Academic Professional on 7th November 2018.

As a level 8 proposal, this is thought to be the first of its kind and is the culmination of many months of engagement with employers, HEIs, professional and sector bodies.

If approved it will mean that an employer led group can come together as a Trailblazer to develop the Apprenticeship Standard and accompanying end-point assessment plan. The outcome will be an apprenticeship opportunity that can be deployed widely across the health and care sector.

Chair of the Trailblazer, Dr Joanne Cooper, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust said
We are delighted to have submitted this proposal for this role which we believe provides a critical dimension to the clinical workforce by combining clinical expert skills, quality improvement, service evaluation, post-doctoral research and education to transform systems and improve outcomes for patients and staff.  If accepted for development, this apprenticeship will offer an invaluable way in which care providers and HEIs can workforce plan and increase current capacity and capability for clinical academic careers nationally.  A personal thank you to all those whose contribution has brought us to this point, including representatives from Trusts, HEIs, professional bodies and patient and public representatives”.

The Institute for Apprenticeships will hold a short consultation on the proposal. When available, the survey can be found here.

Further communications are planned to let you know more details about next steps when the outcome of the proposal is known.
