“Great news for the Dental Team!! Many of the dental care professional apprenticeship roles are currently under redevelopment, through the work of the Trailblazer Groups. Amongst these major revisions is an exciting new qualification for Oral Health Practitioners, developing the skills and knowledge of existing Dental Nurses. This is supported through the recently approved OHP, level 4, apprenticeship standard. The Oral Health Practitioner is a highly skilled dental care professional who has a degree of autonomy, working under the direction of a dentist, performing a wide range of oral health education and preventive measures. This important new role is ideal for performing outreach duties; supporting those living and working in care homes, engaging with nursing mothers, or expanding the preventive care advice offered in the practice setting.”
