Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust have taken an innovative approach to work experience this year, as traditional work experience placements have been cancelled. Rather than miss out on the opportunity to engage with school students and inspire them to think about careers in the NHS, the trust rolled out a virtual work experience programme to give year 10 students the chance to find out more about careers in the NHS.
This is part of the ‘Get into Health and Care’ project being run in Cornwall, aiming to engage more with school and college leavers and establish a strong pipeline of future NHS workers, including routes into their apprenticeship programmes. Across Cornwall, apprentices are being taken on in roles from entry level healthcare support workers to registered nurse and across other clinical and non-clinical roles.
