Membership for Association of Apprentices (AOA) is funded by NHS England for all NHS apprentices.
The Association of Apprentices (AoA) is a UK-wide not-for-profit social enterprise that supports every apprentice to have a high-quality experience, fulfil their potential and progress to successful completion. They work with employers and providers to offer enhanced experiences for their apprentices through our community, with peer-to-peer networking, learning and support.
The AOA now have a new Partner Toolkit. The toolkit has been designed to support employers in spreading the word about AoA to their apprentices.
The toolkit will also be useful for Line Managers and teams, particularly the Get Ahead Guides and FAQ’s in the handbook.

With the care leaver’s bursary increased to £3,000 from 1st August 2023 there has never been a better time to support care experienced young people into NHS careers and apprenticeships.

NHS Managers Toolkit – Recruiting and Retaining Care Leavers in Employment
The NHS Managers Toolkit, crafted through the lens of care leavers’ lived experiences, stands as a comprehensive guide for the NHS in championing the inclusion and success of care leavers in the workforce.
It aims to provide practical guidance for supporting care leavers during employment, ensuring their longevity in roles, and facilitating career progression. The insights presented here are not rigid directives but rather offer valuable options and considerations.
Empowerment Passport – NHS England has funded access to the Empowerment Passport for Learners. (Please note that providers/employers that are interested would need to look at a corporate licence.)
Diversity & Disability Toolkit: This Toolkit goes through the process of applying for and accessing additional support, showing what to do and when. This Toolkit is useful for Health Professionals and learners.
This toolkit aims to help employers put equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) at the heart of the creation of occupational standards and apprenticeships.
Keeping track of all the learner data, securely and confidentially can be tricky. You must store data in line with GDPR. NHS Employers offers a range of resources and advice.
Organisations may use in-house databases or tracking tools but there are also external services you may need to link to.
The DAS (Digital Apprenticeship Service) lets you track levy funds against each apprentice
The government’s data library holds an overview of statistics via a number of reports such as starts, achievement, geography, age. See more here.
In October 2020 the NHS became the world’s first health service to commit to becoming carbon net zero. This section details where you can find resources and guidance on the progress made so far and how employers can contribute.
