Functional Skills are qualifications in English, Maths and Digital Skills regulated by government for use in England.

There are many other qualifications that satisfy the criteria of being equivalent to level 2 functional skills.
‘The purpose of functional skills qualifications in English, Maths and ICT is to provide:
- reliable evidence of a student’s achievements against demanding content that is relevant to the workplace.
- assessment of students’ underpinning knowledge as well as their ability to apply this in different contexts.’ (UK Government).
Functional Skills qualifications define:
- which basic English, maths and Digital skills are to be assessed at different levels of achievement
- how they are to be assessed and marked.
They are offered at different levels from Entry to Level 2 in the Regulated Qualifications Framework.
