Apprenticeship Standard for Arts Therapist – Proposal approved

21 December, 2017

Further to the submission of a proposal to the Institute for Apprenticeships to develop a degree apprenticeship standard for Arts Therapist at level 7 we are delighted to announce that the proposal has been approved. The Arts Therapist standard will be for Art, Drama and Music Therapists.

An employer led Trailblazer group will now take forward the drafting of the Degree Apprenticeship Standard and accompanying end-point assessment plan. Once ready for wider consultation, an online survey will be available on our consultations page. Further communications are planned to let you know when the consultation is open.

Chairs of the Arts Therapist Apprenticeship Trail blazer group Stephen Sandford (Music Therapist & Professional Lead for Allied Health Professions at East London NHS Foundation Trust) and Tim Wright (Art Therapist & Head of Local Arts Therapies Services at West London Mental Health Trust) said:
“As long standing employers of arts therapists in the NHS we are delighted that this expression of interest has been approved.  Arts Therapies trainees currently self-fund their training and we are confident that this Apprenticeship will enhance opportunities for workforce development across the wide range of services that arts therapists work including, health, education and social care.”
