Level 2 Business Support Assistant Apprenticeship Standard Update

4 July, 2019

The Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education have responded to the proposal for a Level 2 Business Support Assistant Standard to say it does not meet the minimum criteria for an apprenticeship.

The feedback states that they feel that the apprenticeship lacks the breadth, depth and skill to be considered for 20% off the job training for 12 months; and that it is not distinct enough from the Level 3 Business Administrator.

The Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education have made an offer of ‘additional support’ to work with the Department of Education to look at alternative provision.  This includes exploring pre-employment provision such as traineeships, and consider using other Level 2 qualifications such as Level 2 Customer Service Practitioner to bridge the gap.

The Trailblazer Group have fed back that this is not a suitable alternative and that there is increasing employer led demand for this vital entry route into a vast range of sectors including the NHS.

Health Education England will continue to support the Trailblazer Group who are planning to meet with the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education in August to discuss next steps.
