NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) recently ran a consultation on proposed changes to their English Language requirements. They received more than 34,000 responses on the proposed changes. On 28th September, the NMC’s Council approved these proposals.
Two key changes have been approved:
- NMC will be standardising the minimum scores they accept when combining test scores and extending the period for this from six to 12 months
- There are certain circumstances where applicants will be able to provide supporting information from their employers as additional evidence of their English language proficiency
These changes will mean greater flexibility for applicants without compromising on the high standards of English language that are essential to safe, kind and effective care
