Celebration of Apprenticeships in the NHS

9 February, 2022

This week is National Apprenticeship Week where a week-long celebration of apprenticeships takes place.

HASO has been searching the internet to find and highlight the great work that NHS Trusts undertake in apprenticeships. There are so many examples but here are just a few.

Molly Dargue is currently completing a Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust. Molly started in a Business Administration role and feels that

“The jump from administrative to clinical staff was the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done”.

You can find out more here.

Jane Dewhurst is currently undertaking a Level 4 Associate Ambulance Practitioner at North West Ambulance Service (NWAS).

I’d encourage anyone to take up an apprenticeship if given the opportunity. And in my case I found you’re never too old to learn something new. I joined NWAS because I wanted to give back something to people in their time of need.

You can read more about Jane here.

Find out more about apprentices at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust. Megan Sinclair-Brown, Therapy Assistant, talks about her experiences. Click here to find out more.

Laura is undertaking a Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship at Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. You can read more here.

“An apprenticeship has allowed me to carry on earning whilst studying, which I’m very grateful for as I have two young children and a mortgage. Without the apprenticeship option, I don’t think I would have been able to train to become a nurse.  My advice to anyone thinking of doing an apprenticeship is to just go for it, you’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain!”

Leona Renshaw is a Level 7 Accountancy/Taxation Professional apprentice working at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Since starting my career with the Trust, I have made good use of apprenticeships to help with my development and have found this to be an excellent way of making personal progress. I have found this way of developing very motivational and have felt it has suited me very well.
