Supporting Apprentices into Employment – Case study published

8 July, 2020

Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (CNTW) are a mental health trust who provide a range of mental health, learning disability and neurological care services across the north of England. They have a long-established apprenticeship program, with a strong strategic direction and an emphasis on “growing their own”.

The Trust were fantastic in training apprentices, especially those with LD and autism. But were finding they weren’t transitioning into jobs on completion. The young and shy and those with LD really struggled at interview but the Trust knew they were amazing and could do the job. They therefore created “matching days” that are focused on informal interview techniques. The matching days have meant that the majority of their apprentices now transition into jobs in the Trust.
