Updates to RoATP – Optical Assistant 2022, Peer Worker and Sonographer

There are now registered training providers on RoATP (Register of Apprenticeship Training Providers) for the following standards:

The Level 6 Sonographer (integrated degree) apprenticeship standard was approved for delivery on 16th August 2019.

Sonographers perform and report a wide range of clinical ultrasound examinations within a defined area of practice. They undertake scans which may include but are not limited to cancer detection, women’s health and pregnancy, abdominal, vascular and musculoskeletal examinations, although their individual scope of practice can be wide and varied. It requires extremely good hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness and excellent interpersonal skills. You can access this standard here.

The Level 3 Peer Worker apprenticeship standard was approved for delivery on 20th July 2022.

Peer Workers work alongside other professionals in hospital, justice and community settings, providing peer support for individuals using knowledge gained from their own lived experience of health or social problems and/or using services. The Level 3 Optical Assistant 2022 apprenticeship standard was approved for delivery on 1st January 2023 and replaces the Level 2 Optical Assistant apprenticeship standard.

The broad purpose of the occupation is to interpret a prescription to identify the appropriate optical device to meet the need of the prescription and customer.
